TERRI FRASER
Indoor/Outdoor Residency
I AM HERE _WHITTEMORE
August - December 2023

I AM HERE_WHITTEMORE

This show is about the amazing surroundings Whittemore has to offer.  The beauty, life, connections, community, and fragility of it all.  The work I will be showing will include many found items from the vast woods of Whittemore.

I am fortunate enough to be able to have a residency while having a show and plan on including the inspiration from the 180 acres of land with live feed on Instagram while taking walks through the woods and incorporating these items into creating 2-dimensional & 3-dimensional works from all the wonders that surround.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I work in multiple mediums bridging between 2D and 3D to tell stories about nature, everyday visual experiences, and memory.

I frequently use grids and organic circles as metaphors for the boundaries of life – Mother Nature’s, societies, and those we create for ourselves.

For abstract 2D work, I primarily layer colors of oil on some combination of linen, canvas, paper, and found objects.  Playing with the amount of paint, pigment, mark making, composition, and objects to enhance each story.

The 3D works range from cast bronze & aluminum, to ceramic, wire, and encaustic.  I layer found objects, natural fibers, and torn paintings on these geometric foundations to add meaning and perspectives to each of the tales. Incorporating, the found, natural, discarded item help me communicate the essence of being human – the power of the hand and the associated flaws, imperfections, and textures.
