I believe that artists are born with a spark of creativity, that is hopefully nurtured, but easily crushed. They gain a modicum of technical information along the way, through studies and training and life experiences...but ultimately are self taught through trial and error and years of perseverance and practice. Artists see the world around us with magnified vision. We can observe the world and learn all the techniques used by other artists, but eventually you achieve the freedom of listening to your own internal voice... and that evolves into your 'style'. So essentially you have been 'self taught'. Persevere. Any object can become a work of art. Continual growth and practice are essential. Liken it to a pianist or football player, practice, practice, practice. It's only a piece of paper! Be brave, dive in, experiment, express in a new manner... Not every attempt will be a masterpiece....but perhaps a learning moment. Trust in your intuition and move forward.
