JIM IRVINE
Artist-in-Resident

Fall 2023-2025

ARTIST STATEMENT

My goal is to create art that pulls people in, by exploring the kaleidoscope of light, movement, and experiences that resurface in Day Dreams and become the inspiration of these mixed media works on canvas and paper. I work at distilling the essence of the memory, structure, color, and mark making to create a multi-layered experience, allowing one to escape into the moment, producing something a bit unexpected, drawing the viewer in, to look a little closer until they almost touch it.

CV/BIOGRAPHY

Jim was born in Chicago and grew up in Pennsylvania. He currently resides in New Jersey with his wife, two teenaged boys, and a high energy dog who occasionally eats his acrylic paints.

I started my creative journey early, except unlike other toddlers that might color on walls, I found a paper clip and began etching into the doorway woodwork. My need for creating art with a strong sense of mark making continued at Pratt, leading to a BFA in Fine Arts. I have created work featured in magazines and in group and juried shows, as well as commissions by private collectors.

Additionally, I have worked extensively in magazine publishing and the financial services industry, currently serving as a VP of Corporate Branding and Creative Services Manager, at Chubb Insurance.
