We are thrilled to be expanding our wellness programs at Whittemore and launching The Wellness Salon. Come join us to connect with fellow members of our community over coffee & tea, learn some insights on specific health topics from our nutritionist, and listen to guest speakers while they educate us on their field of practice. In addition to the Wellness Salon which will meet monthly on Saturday mornings, we will be offering special programs on a variety of healing methods. Our mission is to expand awareness to our community on health and healing modalities that are available to support our body, mind and spirit. Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to learn and grow with us!
May's Guest Speaker: Scarlet Gorton, Sound Practitioner
"Singing bowls have been around for thousands of years, and they are a common fixture in sound healing practices. From Himalayan singing bowls to crystal singing bowls, these instruments create enchanting sounds that can accompany a variety of rituals and practices."
There is a growing body of research that sound therapy using singing bowls can benefit some mental and physical conditions. The most evidence is for relaxation, especially if you use the bowls in guided meditation.
Then join us on MAY 21, 2:00pm for a Sound Bowl experience in the Gardens of Whittemore!
Scarlet is a sound-healing practitioner, ordained pastor, social worker, wife, mother, and grandmother. In each of these roles, she seeks to create harmony in the lives of others. Her nearly decade-long journey with sound began with the study of Tibetan singing bowls and burgeoned into a practice which includes gongs, chimes, and other instruments with unique sonic properties. The sounds produced in her practice aid in releasing tension and energy blockages in the participant(s) to achieve a deep sense of peace. Scarlet fulfilled a certification from the Atma Buti Sound and Vibrational School in 2017 and offers individual and group sound sessions at her home studio in Tewksbury, NJ to any who seek a unique, meditative healing experience. For more information about Scarlet and her practice go to www.healingsoundsnj.com.
Leslie will talk about the link between Gut & Mental Health.
"The vagus nerve is the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system. It establishes the connection between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract. When the GI is not functioning properly it can cause depression, anxiety, brain fog, headaches as well as other issues. Come learn about it!"
"I’m Leslie Weinman, functional nutritionist and clinical herbalist. I am very excited to be leading (coordinating) the Wellness Salon and helping to support our community with their health. In my practice I always look to find the root cause of any imbalance in order to give the body the nourishment it needs through diet, lifestyle and herbal medicine. The body will naturally heal itself when given the proper support. I look forward to meeting you!"
