Topic: The Arc of an Artist's Life    Around 2005, Val took a bit of a sabbatical from formally exhibiting her paintings to try to avoid a divorce, then regroup from a divorce and tend to the financial needs of her children by focusing on a side hustle Civilian, her handprinted clothing and design business. Then again in 2015, she ditched Civilian and went back to painting, writing and teaching. Now, she is rebranding Civilian, embracing the legacy of Civilian with her own long arc of making art.
