STATEMENT - Typically, my work reflects a wonder of science, machines, systems and organizing principles. I make my work out of a deeply personal need to make sense of the unraveling world I feel I am living in. Like the early naturalist Alexander Von Humbolt, I feel as if I am grabbing up whatever specimens I can shove in my pockets as I trudge through the wilderness so that when I get them home I can draw, catalog, study, and understand. I do not use the word wonder lightly when describing my creative practice. Curiosity and surprise in the face of the inexplicable drives a need as an artist to say, “see this as I do”. A kind of shared wonder I suppose.

Jeff McConnell is a photographer and educator.

STATEMENT - I am a photographer, making images without lenses - often in cameras I make himself. The images consider different ways of experiencing time - in both urban and natural settings.
